why should it feel felicitating for being equally or more-or-less like others in comparing corruption phenomenon?? The corruption itself should be condemned and echo Emily, individual make difference by not subscribing to it, and definitely corruption won't go away by complaining less.

hah! talk about trafic police! when my car was rearend two weeks shy of from the date I git it, even with ample informations on the model of the lorry, even the address of the company (I made it my priority to checked the address) nothing came back to me.

The sargeant seemed been sitting on the report. he don't even try to contact me back. I think they assume I would claim my own insurance for the repair which caused by others, so he has no priority to investigate. I bet if I offered him something, he will be flying out of the door, before I say thank you and chase the idiot. fat chance brother!

Unspun, as a Malaysian all I can say is that it takes two hands to clap. Many Malaysians regard bribing as a way of life here, which perpetuates the problem. They think that it's OK to break the law because if caught, the problem is easily fixed - pay some money and it'll all go away. But these "horror stories" are everywhere, not just Malaysia. It's individuals like you and me who can make a difference by choosing not to subscribe to this way of life :)

[...] Probably, but not by much according to Unspun. I have friend (Indonesian) who is absolutely nuts about Malaysia.
Roi: I would replace "Malays" with "Malaysians". I wouldn't bet on the education system either. I had some friends who moved to -- of all places Singapore -- because of the education of their children.

One of the elements that helped them to move to Boresville was a history lesson where the children was told in a text book that the Brits colonized Malaysian because they were jealous of Malaysia's success. Go figure.

[...] "Has corruption gotten worse in Malaysia?", blogger Unspun asked. Why does this sound more and more like Indonesia? Perhaps Indonesians should not complain so much about how bad corruption is in their country, certainly if compared to their serumpun neighbor. There is void of any real indicator to determine the level of corruption in any particular country, thus we’ve to rely on the general perception, which of course, is varied across community.
