Kontan, a weekly business tabloid, has taken the plunge into the daily wars by becoming a broadsheet daily. The paper, a subsidiary of the Kompas Gramedia Group, launched its first daily edition today bringing it into direct competition with Bisnis Indonesia, Investor Daily.

Journalists are wondering whether by opting to go daily, Kontan would lose its edge as a paper known for its investigative and in-depth business stories or whether it can still crank out the stories despite the daily grind. Time will tell but what’s worth noting is that the Kompas Gramedia Group has very deep pockets to make the paper a success. Welcome Kontan. It’s good to see more competition.
