Scrap iron vendors. At least that’s what the city thinks, as reported in yesterday’s edition of The Jakarta Post:
In response to worsening traffic congestion along Jl. Mangga Besar I, the West Jakarta administration plans to evict dozens of scrap iron vendors who operate in the area.
The head of the West Jakarta Public Order Agency, Abidin Mustofa, said Tuesday scrap iron vendors who had constructed stalls on the banks of the Ciliwung river would also be evicted.

What is worse for Jakarta traffic? Motor cycles criss-crossing between cars and cutting through intersections, the various “busses” that make stops where ever and when ever, the removal of lanes to increase traffic passages for the TransJakarta busses, or the 3-in-1 rule that shoves traffic onto already delapidated and over-crowded artierial roads?
I left out garbage collectors and food vendors with their two-wheeled carts. Do they contribute to the traffic problems?
