If like Unspun, you’ve nonchalant about HIV and AIDS because the usual stories about the subject are as dry as a statistician’s humor, then be prepared to change your mind.Be entertained, appalled, amused and informed about HIV in Elizabeth Pisani’s new blog, The Wisdom of Whores, but before that get a sampling of what’s to come in her blog.
As an indication of the contents of the blog the categories are Condomania, Good sex and bad, Ideology and HIV, Money and AIDS, The sex trade and the War on Drugs.
Unspun first knew Ibu Elle when both of us were journalists in Asia Times more than a decade ago (see previous post here) and we met up again when she was working with Family Health International in Jakarta.
Often seen scooting around town in her bebek, Ibu Elle frightens the shit out of most men whose masculinity needs securing but is a great wit, friend and a storehouse of knowledge on sex, prostitutes, warias as well as HIV/Aids. She’s an epidemiologist on top of her journalistic credentials.
She’s now about to launch her book The Wisdom of Whores, which should get the entire HIV/AIDS industry in an uproar and in turmoil, if Unspun is right about things.
She’ll also be revisiting Jakarta soon. Kopdar with Ibu Elle, anyone?

Good post! Yes, I agree with you. The point of view towards them is still unbalanced and they are always portrayed as ‘non morals’ let alone their customers.
Anyhow, I got your message this morning. I would love to kopdar with you. Just email me (martin[AT]sekurindogroup[dot]com) and I’ll let you know my mobile number so we can arrange it. c ya!

I too await your book. My better half went on a wild rampage in Jakarta , encouraged by his brain dead assistant, and now I live in fear. Despite the blood test I still worry …
Just come and let … Classroom art – thanks!
