Trust Pisani to come up with things interesting in one of her areas of interest – sex education. Wonder if a show like that would ever fly in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia where things are rather, er, behind the times when it comes to sex education.
| I have been greatly seduced by The MidWest Teen Sex Show. Its monthly podcasts aim to inform teenagers about the ins and outs of sex. Their audience must include thousands of teenagers who have been keep in Three Monkeys ignorance by the Bush administration’s “abstinence only” programmes — programmes which I note have been generously re-funded by a Democrat controlled Congress. But in truth, plenty of adults I know would benefit from watching some of their delightfully funny videos. |

I believe it is time for sex education incoorporated into schools. The current non-existence of it is scary. I’m doing research into “incest habits and practices” within the South-East Asian context. It is a very gloomy and sad picture indeed. How can people NOT KNOW? Even animals DO NOT practise incest!!! They understand the genetic breakdown as the end result. Unfortunately humans do not. How pathetic. It is time to break this taboo and make sure than mankind is on the level playing field.
I’ll be interested to see the results of Michael’s research. One of the reasons that no-one talks about incest is that we have no research on it. This is in part because of the taboo itself — potential researchers fear their very questions will offend, and assume that they will not get valid answers. And because we have no research on it, we can pretend it doesn’t exist. A tidy little circle.
