@Wand: I understand the point you are trying to make but disagree. I think that when you are in as a high position as the DPM, you would have minders because everyone wants a bit of your time. There are also a lot of crackpots out there so they have to be filtered.

So the only people who get in to the inner circle are people whom the DPM or the minders think is worthy of seeing. So, Mr Journalist, find out the facts for us: Who let the dog in? When? Why? What was said/transacted? How was it done? Do you job well and there's no need for bloggers like Unspun to be speculating and asking questions.

@Fisto: Thanks. Clipmarks - well, I'm trying out MarsEdit for the time being. It's good in that you can clip as much as you want and also put in the categories before you post. But I think I might go back to Clipmarks even though the word limitation and inability to tag clips before posting are a bit of a pain.

I agree with your point, unspun....i think it applies almost everywhere that it is not easy (but not impossible) to gain access to our PM or president. they are very busy and important persons who always surrounded by lots of people....
btw, i notice you dont use clipmarks anymore. is there something behind that? i'm just wondering....

You still don't get the point. U keep talking about the minions, I am talking about what the minion has to offer. It's the offer the opens the door, not the person.

Correlation of happiness, rather than with democracy, I think it's more with the feeling of being heard - whether it's actually heard or not. Or perhaps that's what is called democracy...

@Wand: One of the things I learned after leaving journalism is that what's obvious to journalists isn't always obvious to others.

It may be obvious to you (but not to me because I know some thing and I simply don't know others) how easy it is to gain access to Ministers.

But it is not obvious for the minions out there, especially school dropouts and those not blesses with your superb journalistic knowledge and skills.

@wah wah

You should try it and you would be surprised. You may not get to see the Minister but at lease you can have your picture taken with his aides. Many people do that. Even easier if you are student leader.

How convenient. "I did not know it was easy for anyone to have access to minister".

Anyway, our leaders shake the hands and meet people at functions and events. It is not difficult to meet them. You can have access to their bodyguards and drivers.

You can pass a note trough their aides. In fact, as a one-time student leader, Saiful would know his way around.

As I said, he may be a nobody and someone a minister might not want to see, but if you bring "something valuable," like this allegation of sodomy against the man who has been taking potshots at the minister, why not.

Why wouldn't najib see saiful? It makes more sense. You assumption that not easy to meet Malaysian minister not entirely true. It's what you can offer the minister, not who you are.

"Maybe I was not a good journalist or the type that you were, who was good at ingratiating yourself to politicians."

I have never been that. never asked favours or accepted gifts of cash from any subject I have covered. Never kowtow to any of them. What I am saying is we were once journalists and we know it is easy to gain access to Malaysian ministers.

Like you said: "Maybe I was not a good journalist."
