CNN is reporting that a new video of Saddam Hussein has emerged that suggests that he may have been abused before (can you be bruised after death? I don’t know) his hanging. The new video is apparently taken of Saddam’s body in a morgue with a gaping neck wound and bruises to his face.
How such things — the lax security and, if true, the abuse of Saddam dead or alive — can come to pass boggles the mind.
One line in the story struck Unspun as particularly interesting:
“Even in Iraq, mourners chanted, “By God, the president Saddam Hussein didn’t bow to the Americans even in the last days of his life.”
Rhetoric and the deeds of the man aside, Saddam did handle himself well and with diginity as he went to meet his Maker, in spite of the taunts of the executioners. How many of us, Unspun wonders, could have carried ourselves that well in an execution?
Yet another reason why George Bush’s War on Terror is doomed to failure.
