Malaysia throws in towel over Rasa Sayang?

Reader Firdaus has pointed Unspun to this item of news. Apparently Malaysian Culture Minister Rais Yatim has admitted that the song Rasa Sayang belongs to Indonesia. If this is true then Rais deserves praise for being real, being responsible and not living in denial like his Cabinet colleagues.

Selasa, 13 November 2007, 08:38:29 WIB
Jakarta, myRMnews. Pemerintah Malaysia akhirnya menyerah soal polemik lagu Rasa Sayange.

  1. Yeah so. It’s going to happen again, anyways. (Sorry for being such a killjoy.)

    Secara de facto. Riiiiight.

Anyways, request permission to stray off topic a bit.
Who the hell is Dr. Yusherman?

‘JAKARTA: An analyst on Indonesia-Malaysia relations, Dr Yusherman said yesterday that Malaysia need not be shocked or feel slighted by the allegation that it had “stolen” the song Rasa Sayange from Indonesia as its theme song for Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
Describing the allegation as an attempt by some quarters in Indonesia to serve their self-interest, the Indonesian expert said the person or persons who made the allegation were looking for cheap publicity and those that supported it were ignorant of Indonesia-Malaysia history.

He said Malaysia would not be affected by the “unfounded allegation” but, on the other hand, Indonesia would be seen by the rest of the world as being envious of Malaysia’s target of 20 million tourist arrivals this year.’

  2. Are you kidding?

They didn’t even write anything bad from their own country, let alone pleaded guilty for us 🙂

No, really, since when did the government said anything bad about themselves? Don’t you remember the Indonesian Press during Orde Lama? Well, from what I heard, the Malaysian Press is on the same level with Indonesia’s during orde lama.

  3. not orde lama …. new order under Soeharto … the same, when government steering the media and all you can read is truly ‘good news’ ’bout govt

  4. haiya, sorry for the typo.

Yes, during those days we can’t even get a clear news about anything. All we know is Indonesia is fit as a fiddle. they didn’t inform us about the foreign debt and stuff that makes Orde Baru fall.
