Playing the odds?

Let’s suppose the Sngaporean authorities really stopped Adnan Buyung and Abdul Rachman for a routine random check. What are the odds that they would stop the President’s advisor and his Attorney General, and on the same day? Any math/statistical whiz out there who could calculate the odds on this one?

Singapore apologizes to Buyung and Abdul

The Jakarta Post ,  Jakarta   |  Sun, 03/23/2008 7:23 AM  |  Headlines

Singapore on Saturday apologized for the two-hour detention of two senior Indonesian officials at Changi Airport on Thursday, but said the questioning was part of routine random checks for all visitors to the city-state.

Immigration officers apologized to presidential advisor Adnan Buyung Nasution and former attorney general Abdul Rachman Saleh after the interrogation, the Singapore ministry of foreign affairs said.

“The questioning was made to ensure thorough checking of visitors. After the questioning, (Buyung) was allowed to enter Singapore freely,” the ministry said as quoted by detik.com.

  1. Two hour detention for a “routine random check”? What’s the bet that our dear public servants brought this on themselves? “Don’t you know who I am…?” :))

  2. Sometimes I love Singapore’s egalitarianly anal ways. That means everyone gets screwed.
