At the Government Leaders Forum

One of the perks of a PR Hack is the privilege of working for huge companies like Microsoft in prestigious events like the Government Leaders Forum in Jakarta today and tomorrow – and not get to enjoy it because you have to work.

The star of the Government Leaders Forum is, of course, Bill Gates who will speak to the delegates here and also deliver a Presidential Lecture on the next Digital Decade tomorrow at the Jakarta Convention Center.

Lots of interesting ideas about using IT to help bridge the digital divide and how government could use IT to help them do their work better to serve the underserved in our society. But that’s for the delegates and not PR hacks like Unspun.

Still, how many PR people can say “I did Bill Gates?”

Bill Gates and the promise of GLF Asia

Djoko Santoso , Bandung | Thu, 05/08/2008 11:03 AM | Opinion

For two days, from Thursday to Friday, about 200 government officials from Asia and Pacific countries will gather in Jakarta to attend the Government Leaders Forum (GLF) Asia 2008.
It is organized by Microsoft in close cooperation with the Indonesian government. This is an extension of a growing collaboration between the two entities across various programs, which appears to be creating promising opportunities for the Indonesian people.
The theme of the present GLF is “Serving the Citizens: The Transformative Power of Information Technology in Delivering Government Services”. From this theme, we may expect there will be a lot of great ideas as to how information technology can improve then way governments provide public services.

  1. Question: how many PR people can say ‘I did Bill Gates?’

Answer: A small army probably. But an elite army. The very best fighters only.
