Govt takes foreign bloggers to Yogyakarta, Bali

Wed, 10/22/2008 9:38 PM  |  National

The government has invited five foreign bloggers on a round trip to Yogyakarta and Bali, in a hope that they will write about their experiences and promote Indonesia.

The bloggers were from the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia, Culture and Tourism Ministry promotions director Esthy Reko Astuty said Wednesday.

“We hope they write about lesser-known tourist spots in Yogyakarta and Bali,” she said after a press conference on Pesta Blogger 2008.

Pesta Blogger is an annual event where bloggers from across Indonesia convene to exchange ideas and engage in public seminars.

This year, the event will be held on Saturday in the BPPT II building on Jl M.H. Thamrin, Central Jakarta. Honorary guests for the event will include Information and Communication Minister Mohammad Nuh and the U.S. ambassador to Indonesia, Cameron R. Hume. The foreign bloggers are also expected to attend.

  2. Nice gig if you can get it, all expenses paid đŸ˜€

Were the selected bloggers travel bloggers or just people who blog on all manner of things of which one was Indonesia?

They won’t be the only foreign bloggers in attendance at Pesta Blogger, will they? đŸ˜€

  3. @Rob: The selection of bloggers will have to depend on a balancing of many factors of which availibility and willingness to travel to Indonesia for the trip and Pesta Blogger is one. They should also have a fairly respectable readership.

On whether they would be the only foreign bloggers: Short memory you must have because I think I answered you on this before. Of course not. Everyone’s invited. Except assholes, that is. You know the type. They usually try to pass off negativism as worldly sophistication.

  4. Am really impressed by what the Indonesian government is doing for bloggers in Indonesia via Pesta Blogger and National Bloggers Day.

How I wish bloggers worldwide can also receive such official recognition, encouragement and endorsement in their own respective countries.

Let us constantly remember those bloggers from all over the world who don’t even have the freedom to blog freely at all.

With Best Wishes to all bloggers attending the
    Pesta Blogger 2008!

  5. I remember 3months ago, as I was clearing Immigration, the officer asked me, “Why you stay so long?” To which I replied, “Bali is very nice. I wish I could stay longer than one month. Can you please stamp “EXTENDED VISA” for me please? I’d stay another year if you’d let me.”

Unfortunately, he told me to “get lost”. I think he just wanted…. y’know…… I flew to Singapore sad. I wish he’d extend my Visa.
