A 26-year-old self-described male prostitute using the Internet to troll for female customers got the shock of his life over the weekend when the client he had arranged to meet in a Jakarta hotel turned out to be a male officer from the Jakarta Police cybercrimes unit.
The arrest is thought to be the first time police have used Yahoo Messenger chat and the popular social networking site Friendster to make an arrest of this nature.
Jakarta Police said on Monday that they had named Sammir, who uses the aliases Ali and Hasan and is an Indonesian of Saudi Arabian descent, a suspect for indecency, which carries a maximum 18-month jail term.
The charges relate to nude photographs Sammir posted on his profile page to advertise his services as a gigolo. Other charges are being considered.
