UPDATE: Anyone can make a mistake but it takes cojones to accept responsiblity for it and do something about it. The JFCC has just issued an apology to members for inadvertently sending out the commercial message highlighted below and says it has tightened its screening procedures to ensure such things do not happen again. All this makes Unspun very proud to be a card carrying member of the JFCC. Good one guys. Now, if only Lapindo would take advice from foreign journalists….
Journalists are formidable human beings and sometimes they seemingly live to point out the foibles of others. This is all very right as many businesses often have suspect profit-making motives and the Press are society’s guardians. But what happens when they have to make executive decisions?
Sometimes it becomes very curious, like this e-mail from the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club to its members yesterday:
We are pleased to inform you that XXXX will be holding its next investment seminar event at the Financial Club Jakarta at 7:00PM Wednesday 20th September 2006. Having said that I must congratulate the JFCC for getting their website up. At this rate the journos might soon be indistinguishable from the corporate suits.
