Life for a blogger is terrible without internet access. Thus did I suffer as I was forced to endure a few days and nights in Bali, of which one night involved spending in a villa in the middle of paddy fields and absolute bliss in Sukawati…
There is a point to this gloating though…early this morning, while I contemplated the paddy fields I received an sms this morning from Riris Irawati, the Managing Editor of The Point asking me to rush out to the nearest newstand to get my copy of the first edition of The Point. I would have, but Sukawati isn’t exactly newsstand central so until now I haven’t seen The Point.
But congrats anyway to Riris and the team for getting The Point out at last after a couple of delays. This should give the Jakarta Post a run for their money. Is the Post worried at all by the new kid on the block? They all reply with the same spin when asked about how they welcome competition and all that in a nonchalent manner. But they have their eyes and ears on the ground. Riris wasn’t the first one to tell me that The Point would debut today – that honor goes to The Jakarta Post’s Endy Bayuni whom Unspun bumped into at the Ubud Readers and Writers Festival on Sunday, at the launch of Jeremy Wagstaff’s book on technology for Luddites: Loose Wire. But more of that later.
