Calling Minangkabaus

Unspun‘s cyber buddy Michael Chick (hey, that’s his name, Unspun is not spinning here) is making a film on Minangkabau and how the women got to be so smart they do most of the things that matter more than their men.

He’s looking for a Minangkabau woman who’s from the Bukit Tinggi area to help him navigate his way in the community. Any takers? If you’e interested to showcase your culture you can email him here and below is Michael’s statement on what he’s doing and what he wants.

“The Right to Live” is a Documentary discussing Violence against Women and Children. The Documentary Director is looking at the understudy of Unique Matrilineal System among the Minangkabau who predominantly reside in the Bukit Tinggi region. We want to examine why this System is so unique from the rest of the Patriarchal-Based Systems around the Globe. The Right to Live is not about being judgmental. Just an understudy of the Various Diverse Cultures, and an exploration of the rich diverse world which we all share.

This non-profit-film will seek to discover and interview individuals who may hold the key to improving our lives. An intricate web of inter-woven preconceptions handed down for generations may be unlocked by the gentle people’s known to the world only as the Minangkabau.

The filmmaker would greatly appreciate any individual/ NGO who would perhaps assists in making this understudy a reality. Any help would be appreciated.”

  1. I wonder if it’s ok if it’s based on slightly different area. I’m from Silungkang, about 60 km south of Padang. I may be able to get him to connect with several experts from this village on the topic. Will email him soon.

A bit more on Silungkang (also he’s probably the oldest Indonesian blogger) :
