Unspun‘s always thought that Indonesia is about the best place to be a politician. That’s because Indonesians are by naure so forgivign and accepting that it would take a lot for them to get the heckles up.
So rubbish goes by uncollected, roads are riddled with pothols, busses stop in the middle of the road and Indonesians still take things in their stride. But there must be a breaking point before any peopl will say enough is enough.
This is why the class action suit against the rise in road tolls is so interesting to watch. Traffic in jakarta has been getting progressively worse over the years. Each year passes with more and more cars on the roads without new roads being built. So the traffic jams get longer and its now so bad that each time you have to travel out of your office you get stuck for hours in traffic.
Where traffic jams are concerned Unspun senses that the point has come when Jakartans are ready to do something about it and the class action against toll rises may just be the catalyst. Let’s watch the action unfold. If it gains momentum it can be only good for Jakarta and Indonesia as it would mean that the public has gotten so fed up that they are ready at last to do something about their environment.
