Zam boleh! Boleh make Malaysia-Indonesia ties worse than before


Unspun doesn’t get it. How can a former journalist be so ingenuous and insensitive as to lash out at Indonesian journalists for their aggressiveness in reporting?Indonesian journalists are aggressive because that’s what journalists in countries with a free press do. They question, the challenge and they act as a check and balance to the powers that be.

Unlike in Malaysia where the only thriving journalists seem to be the journalists most adept at obsequiousness (wow, did Unspun spell it right?). Which opens up the question of what kind of a journalist Zam was like before he was elevated to the post of Information Minister…would he, in the ripeness of time, qualify as yet another Eminent Journalist of the Malay World?

The Malaysian information minister’s lash out at the Indonesian media’s apparent aggressiveness in reporting Malaysia-Indonesia ties were thorny seems to have backfired.

The statement by the minister has in fact further strained an already icy relationship between the so-called big brother and her alleged arrogant neighbor.

This diplomatic boo-boo all but extinguishes the quiet diplomatic efforts by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak just one week before.

    Zam for Eminent Journalist of the Malay World award recipient? They didn’t even invite him to the ceremony last Saturday evening bro. By right, as the Information Minister and a former journalist and the latest recipient of Malaysia’s Eminent Journalist Award (the first time it went to a politician), Zam should have been invited to grace the event and sit with the region’s all-time greats like Pak Rosihan.

    How would you get it when this Zam guy doesn’t even know the meaning of “democracy”? We heard a load of bull from him during the10/11 AJ English news interview and I suppose he is the typical old school chap.

    Malaysia is NOT a Democratic country. It is Autocratic. Whoever says that Malaysia is Democratic obviously have read far too much government propoganda and ought to have their head examined.

    If what Loh Mui Fah said was true, there are many questions can be asked:
    – Why did the PM mum over Loh’s letter and his appeal for protection?
    – Same question to Tan Sri Haidar who had insisted that nobody came forward to offer information, why did he keep silent?
    – What was the role of the ACA? Did the ACA act on the tip off from VK Lingam?

    In short, it is obvious that the authorities knew that the clip was genuine and have already had the means to tract down the maker of the video not long after Anwar released the clip.

    While in actual fact, the members of the investigation panel need no further evidence on the authenticity of the clip.

    Even when the Royal Commission was formed, Tan Sri Haidar continued to be silent on the identity of the video maker. If Mr Loh Mui Fah did not voluntarily present himself to the public, I wonder he would ever be called for the inquiry.
