Who’s that PR firm?

I had heard rumors about the trip but never heard the figure. Yosef Ardi, however, has a posting (below) about the fabled trip where Indonesian reporters were shuttled to the neighboring country to cover a legal dispute. If I am not mistaken the trip was not a great success because, said one of the journalists: “If I write a favorable story about them, I’d be accused of being on the take. If I don’t, they would not be pleased with me.” Forced to choose, he apparently chose the former. He feels bad but not, I bet, as bad as the PR firm when the client asks them about the ROI on their PR efforts.

If that’s the same trip, of course. Too bad Yosef doesn’t give more details.

USD10,000/journalist for court hearing coverage

A company involved in a legal dispute over shares in an Indonesian giant mining company paid US$10,000 per journalist per trip to cover the court hearing overseas (just next door). The trip was arranged by a US-based PR firm. That’s on top of air travel, luxury hotel rooms, and delicious meals for seven days. Wow! Check out the stories!

One response to “Who’s that PR firm?”

  1. A reader, K, SMSed and said that US$10K sounded a bit excessive for a trip to Singapore. On reflection, I think he may be right. I had heard about the trip but I had not heard the amount which was mentioned by Yosef. Would be interesting if we can have an accounting as to how it could total US$10K, which is a lot of money. Sorry for including the figure without proper qualifications. Promise to be more vigilant next time.
