He certainly does not represent the best face of Foreigners in Indonesia.

Hmmm, Oigal, a foreigner married to an Indonesian woman, defends another foreigner married to an Indonesian woman. Besides, no-one’s actually pinned down what the problem is. There’s an incredibly arrogant assumption that Yuyun is poor, powerless and stupid in all of this. And of course the accusations towards Sheldon have been blatant; pervert, dirty old man, stopping just short of calling him a child molester. The point is – they’re together out of choice. It might not be a choice that cossets everyone’s preconceived notions of properness, but that’s life.

i wonder if yusril mahendra’s a member?
or Abdul Latief for that matter (he married a very young girl – now divorced of course)
etc etc…
MONEY+STATUS=PUSSY MAGNET
nothing to do with being foreign at all.

Indcoup: I’m willing to bet that Yusril and Abdul Latief have much, much more mola and status than than Sheldon.
What’s Sheldon’s monetary worth compared to theirs? What’s his status compared to theirs? Afraid you may have defeated your own argument, which is not the same thing as saying being foreign = p magnet, as you so eloquently put it.

Unspun: it is normal in Indonesian culture – and also in the West as well – for women to choose partners who have money. In Indonesia, i personally know a few old men – one of whom is 65 – who have wives less than 30. It is through choice and not coercion. To some poor Indonesian women, the idea of a rich husband is obviously very appealing – I don’t think they could care less what nationality the man is. Cheers.

Indcoup, I am not surprised that an intellect like yours would produce so preposterous a generalization as ‘it is normal in Indonesian culture’, and ‘also in the West.’ Maybe in the circles you move, or rather, wallow in.
