Traditionally the hacks do it with a farewell pissup but Claire, who’s been in Jakarta for many years, and a teetotaler, is choosing to do hers with raising money for a cause.Been fun to have had her in Jakarta as she’s one hell of a business journo. We’ll all miss you Claire. Good luck.
What: My Farewell to Batavia
Where: Face Bar, part of Lana Thai.
When: Friday, Nov 23, from 7 p.m.
In lieu of the fact that I do not drink and will have to reject offers of drinks on Friday, I would like to ask instead for contributions instead to the Bali Soccer Academy, a non-profit community project incorporated as a yayasan. It is to provide coaching in a safe and structured environment, for kids of all ages, particularly the under-privileged kids of Abianbase, about20 minutes from Kuta. It will also keep them off the streets and from negative influences. The project, founded by Leonard Beschizza with Owen Monaghan as coaching director and Mark Robinson as operations director, will be self-funding and costs will be covered by sponsors and the holding of football camps for children of tourists and Bali expats. |
